Mentoring the next generation of Ugandan scientists.
Through internships and research assistant positions, I mentor early-career Ugandans interested in primate behavior and conservation. Several interns have gone on to pursue MSc programs in Uganda, and one is now a PhD student with me at UT Austin.
Supporting education in rural Uganda
Since 2012, I have worked with an elementary school outside Kibale National Park. We have helped raise funds to build seven permanent classrooms and pay for some teachers, as 95% of the parents are subsistence farmers. The school now has everything it needs to become government funded.
